  • Back to the Fundamentals5

After reading the comments of some critics, I was surprised to see how many of them spoke with disdain about the movie as a deviation from the field. I suppose many of them were based on old movies to color his interpretation of Basil Rathbone Holmes. They seem to forget that in novels and true stories written by Doyle Holmes was a manic-depressive temperament artistically, physically powerful individual Inconvenient Watson conducting experiments in his shared apartment. He was a boxer with a different name, was addicted to cocaine and, according to "The Adventure of" Empty House, was one of the first "mixed martial arts," Bartitsu (poorly written by Doyle as " Baritsu "). Watson is a former military doctor formidable released because of complications of a shoulder injury sustained in fierce fighting during his service in Afghanistan. In many respects, their representation in this film is much closer to their representation by Doyle that we saw in the past. I am particularly pleased that finally ended with the release of ridiculous high-level fighter who has become a staple Holmes films, due to one of the original artwork and has Padget no sense for the character when I was in the urban environment.

  • Alice in Wonderland dvd of the best animated films of all time5
The history of animation is like the first book, but contains parts of Book II. Dozy Alice is so stupid that problems still chasing a rabbit hole talk for hours. Basically, she drinks an unknown substance that helps to pass through a door, talking in Wonderland. Here is the Dodo, Tweedledum and Tweedledee (which tell the story of the walrus and the carpenter), Talking flowers (watch out for the snobby Iris!), The caterpillar and the Cheshire Cat. It even has a birthday tea "with the Mad Hatter and the March Hare. However, Alice is caught in a game of croquet with the Queen of Heart, then a trial. Everything becomes a nightmare, Alice realizes that it was a dream, while she slept. First, I do not know why so many people that this movie is cheesy. I know that Alice is not for everyone, but when you look at other films on the Disney classic, children (eg-Jungle Book, The Hunchback of Notre Dame), you will see that it is more faithful to the original film. However, if you've read the books and I have not seen the film, some characters are missing (eg-Duchess, Mock Turtle, Knave of Heart, White Knight). This can only think that Disney has ruined this timeless classic. They did not. This is the best adaptation I've ever seen. Although actually the PAL version, I think the movie is the same in North America. The best parts are the walrus and the carpenter, the garden of flowers and singing flamingo croquet. And the Mad Tea Party is still the most fun of a Disney classic. So buy this movie. Time is a videotape or DVD. (I also live near the birthplace of Carroll!)

  •  Only the Chipmunks & Chippettes can beat Charice!5

The last time Charice in the post 3 in a contest which was 12. The Chipmunks took a surprise for a good cause - to save his School of Music Department. Chippett had really thought for a while. hehehe

Charice representing a rival school singing competition with anyone in the background singing Cippettes - great song! In fact, all of Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) is great - the kids in my house, he always plays - so much fun.
I love Charice not only for his talent, but because it really is an excellent model for our children. She began singing in competitions at age 7 to put food on the table in the family - literally! It has overcome many obstacles to succeed and has done the right way - a genuinely good person. For children over 8 years, I recommend new album Pop Charice's; Charice - Charice a new single, Pyramid [Featuring Iyaz] is # 15 on Billboard this week.
The Chipmunks broke into the Blu-ray screen - my children and I love it! It is also the standard DVD: Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel (Single-Disc Version) and (two Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel-Disc Special Edition) - Enjoy

  • As Good as The Shield and The Sopranos5
I'll try to keep this short. If you've read the other reviews, you know the premise of the show. It has received many accolades and some awards. But you know what, there are many really good shows out there now, and it can be hard to keep up with all of them. So if you are still undecided as to whether this show is worth an investment of your time and money, I hope this helps. If are an avid fan of the Sopranos and The Shield, you will love Breaking Bad. Do you remember how both of those shows would, at their very best, leave you staring at the screen, with your heart pounding, saying to yourself "Holy S---"? Well, there are moments like that in Breaking Bad. Like the Sopranos, it effectively mixes dark comedy and violence. Like The Shield, it has episodes and plotlines that are incredibly intense. And like both of those shows, it features a protagonist leading a double life. The performance of Bryan Cranston, like those of James Gandolfini and Micheal Chiklis is one of the finest ever seen on televison. Your move.
  • Breaking Bad Shatters Television5
I wrote a rave review for the first season because of how incredible and sublimely perfect it was. I also pondered whether or not that kind of magic can be duplicated, and feared season 2 would have to be a letdown after a blockbuster first season. I was so wrong. Season 2 blew season 1 out of the water. It was better in so many ways. Aaron Paul deserved the Emmy nomination because he was fantastic, Cranston once again was light years better than any performance you will see on tv. The editing, cinematography, music cues, scene location, and direction were just so perfectly blended. Everything about season 2 was great. But it starts with the story, of course. And naturally youre left, after season 1's finale, wondering what direction the show is going to careen off into and carry a mesmerized audience. The conclusion of season 1 left us with a pretty good idea of what was going to happen, and then season 2 went break-neck speed further past that and well beyond. I was stunned at how beautiful and tragic some of the character developments evolved, such as the scene where Jesse's girlfriend dies, the scene just prior to where Walt is at the bar with (unknowingly) the girls father, and then the action Walt takes to save Jesse from his despair. Its madness and yet its so touching. Definitely one of my favorite sequences. Or the scene where Tuco has Jesse at gunpoint and Jesse mans up and truly breaks bad by actually overpowering the lunatic Tuco. Real solid character development that had me howling for Jesse's triumph. You can have your reality tv, your lame game shows, your crime dramas your adult swim whatever. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING compares to this masterpiece. There has never been a show so engaging, thrilling and groundbreaking as this show, and you will never see a show like this as long as you live. Everything pales in comparison, so enjoy this ride while it lasts, because it seems to me Season 3 may just be the end.

  • Fabulous, whimsical, funny as all get out - there's something quite fantastic about Mr. Fox and friends5
When we meet Mr. Fox he's in a bind - he and Mrs. Fox get caught in a trap and she tells him she's pregnant and he promises never ever but never again to risk his life taking from farmers. He'll get a respectable job, as a columnist for the local paper, but two years later (12 in fox years) they have a misfit teen and a visiting cousin and Mr. Fox is feeling middle aged and anxious, and itchy for the danger and criminal excitement of stealing poultry. He's a wild animal at heart, he insists, not made to settle down into age and oblivion. He comes up with a plan, and along with his friend, the possum plumber, plans one last heist, not just any heist but the big one, stealing from the fiercest farmers around: Boggis, Bunce and Bean (you know: one fat, one short, one lean, but uniformly mean). They don't take it lying down. Mr. Fox's carefree and careless indiscretions turn into an all out war between the farmers and the animals, and everyone will have to work together and set aside rivalries and resentment and hurt feelings. The danger is real, and they take unnecessary risks, but they have a lot of fun and adventure along the way. I really dig the quirky and stylish vibe of the irresponsibly fantastic Mr. Fox. Voiced by George Clooney with flair and a fancy whistle and a click, and animated in a silly and stylish retro stop motion approach. It's a very fun film, and my wife and I loved it and laughed out loud, a lot, but so did our kids (and so, apparently, did lots of others who couldn't stop busting up or exclaiming around us in the theaters). The film's got something for everyone, and stays true to the feel of Roald Dahl's classic tale while giving it the whimsical feel and quirky delights that can only be found in a Wes Anderson film. The retro-stylish clothing and settings and the family dynamics, especially that between a larger than life but aloof father and a struggling son (played perfectly by Jason Schwartzmann), fit easily into his oeuvre. I loved the look of the film, the delightful attention to detail, the colors and lighting were perfect, and the deliberately low tech touches, where you could see the ruffling hair and wobbling of water, just add to the charm. Great stuff, highly recommended.
  • Intelligent family filmaking; smart as a fox5
Frankly, they had me by opening the movie with "The Ballad of Davy Crockett," which by the way, is mistakenly listed in the credits as performed by The Wellingtons. Actually it is the soundtrack version by the MelloMen, but I've seen it mislabeled elsewhere too. And the highly underrated "Love" from "Robin Hood." How nice. The entire score is as unconventional as the film -- dominated by banjo and rhythm tracks to give it an "independent film" texture rather than the now-obligatory John Williams-type score (not that I don't love those scores too, this is just a fresh approach and avoids the modern factory film feel). Even the titles are clever, all in keeping not only with a singular director's vision, but also very much in the Roald Dahl style. This particular book, by the way, is perhaps one of the most challenging to bring to film since it is one of the few Dahl stories without magical fantasy elements. I think the overall takeaway, and the thread through all the other comments on this topic is -- intelligence. That's a prized commodity in so much of today's entertainment, animated or otherwise. This is a film as smart as a fox.

  • astonishing5
Giving this set a bad rating because you already bought an earlier set is doing any potential buyers of this set a grave injustice. It is, simply, astonishing. Why? Start with digital transfers from the original camera negatives and magnetic tracks. Add commentaries for the majority of episodes. And multiple commentaries for several episodes. Add Rod Serling's college lectures used for commentaries. Add interviews with cast and crew members. Add isolated msic scores. Add intros and outros. Add network promo spots. Add the TWILIGHT ZONE radio dramas and comic books...I could go on but why bother? If you are a TWILIGHT ZONE FAN, you won't be disappointed.
  • Twilight zone5
I am a real fan of Rod Serling's Twilight Zone. I bought the 42 VHS collection of Twilight Zone via Columbia House Canada and paid nearly $1500.00 for the entire collection more than ten years ago. What a deal to obtain the DVD collection with all the extras for a fraction of what I paid for the VHS. The quality is excellent. One little note: there is no close caption for the season one but no problem for seasons 2,3,4,5. Thank you Amazon. I live in Québec canada and it took only five days to receive the collection by regular mail.
